Master Planning and Concept Design Services (services performed at CDH Partners by Thomas Smith as Principal and Michael Boland as Project Manager)

Due to significant growth and a limited site, the church and school lack the facilities in which to properly serve the religious and educational needs of its people. With a feasibility study complete, a master plan was created to guide the church, both functionally and aesthetically, as how to meet their growing needs now and for generations to come. The program for the parish consists of a new Chapel, a large Parish Hall that serves both religious and social functions, expanded administration area, meeting rooms and various support spaces. The school program calls for a new middle school with 8-10 classrooms, renovation of the cafeteria and media center, and a new gymnasium equipped with a permanent stage for theatrical productions.

In order to provide the campus with the required space, the master plan calls for the demolition of the gymnasium and the rectory, the two buildings which are stylistically awkward on the campus. A new Chapel, which echoes the Gothic language of the Cathedral, will engage much traveled Peachtree Street, becoming the signage that the Cathedral has longed for. The new Parish Hall, reminiscent of a collegiate dining hall, will provide seating for 700 in a Gothic inspired room while the new limestone clad Gymnasium will offer the required spaces in a contemporary language that takes cues from its predecessors.
