Services
Programming, Zoning, Liturgical Furniture Design, Building Design, and Contract Documents (services performed while at CDH Partners by Thomas Smith as principal and Todd Groves as project manager)

 

The new worship building is located on 18 acres adjacent to Callaway Garden’s entrance in Pine Mountain, Georgia. The building is sited among natural trees which helps the transition from everyday life to the liturgy. The church design contains new forms made of steel, stone, wood and glass. The wood liturgical furnishings were designed specifically for the worship space; expressing dignity and stability.

 

Brief
• create a master plan for a place of peace within the surrounding environment
• use natural materials that harmonize with the site
• provide natural light at the sanctuary platform
• frame building with existing tree line
• create visibility from the entrance of Callaway Gardens

 

Results
• a 400-seat, open cross plan, that includes custom liturgical furniture
• large, north facing windows provide views of the surrounding meadow and woods; connect viewer to nature
• master plan includes future parish hall, education, and administration building
• a future outdoor chapel is will include the stations of the cross

 

Awards

• 2010 Woodwork Award winner, traditional use of wood
